Indexing

Does anyone have any recommendations regarding indexing, particularly subtypes? I'm trying to make judgments as to where to draw the line in terms of creating indexes and I'm not sure about fields that are searched regularly, but don't have a lot of different values, like subtypes. Often times, our subtypes are used for symbology, so there would definitely be a lot of queries on the subtype field.

Any ideas anyone?
