Raster images stored in PostgreSQL

I have added raster image in the mosaic dataset (in PostgreSQL) using ArcMap10.1. I want to know how raster images are stored in mosaic dataset in PostgreSQL. i have searched for thumbnail and it is stored as bytes in thumbnail column in _cat table.
