Licenseserver throws 0x80010105 (RPC_E_SERVERFAULT)

Hi

We're having a weird issue. We are at 10.1 SP1 and on Oracle 11.2.0.3.0 64 bits version.

Our process is like this:
We have a windows service that on a regular basis starts up another executable file that does the retrieval of the license. If the user that is set up to run the service is not member of local administrator group, we get an exception:

System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80010105): The server threw an exception. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80010105 (RPC_E_SERVERFAULT))

We're asking for esriLicenseProductCode.esriLicenseProductCodeAdvanced and the extension esriLicenseExtensionCode.esriLicenseExtensionCodeDataInteroperability
If we make the user member of the local admin group everything runs as it should. Also, if we start the executable file from a command prompt it works fine without admin privileges.

We have gone through the wizard to get LicenseIntializer code generated, and as mentioned it works fine when member of local admin. When I try to debug this, I attach a debugger to the service and step through the code. When we reach the point:

esriLicenseStatus status = m_AoInit.IsProductCodeAvailable(prod);

where prod is an esriLicenseProductCode the code just dies with output:

The program '[5652] Replication.Processrunner.exe: Managed (v4.0.30319)' has exited with code -1073741819 (0xc0000005) 'Access violation'.

ReplicationProcessrunner.exe is the executable that tries to retrieve license code. Also, as mentioned, we just have issue when this is started from a service and the running user is not member of local admin.

The "crash" is immedatly, and we have used wireshark to check whatever is going on the wire when trying to get this license. As far as we can see, nothing is ever getting out on the network. It seems like it crashes even before it tries to reach the licenseserver. We have also verified that our settings regarding licenseserver are correct.

To me, this seems clearly like some bug, and we are really stuck here, so any help/suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Custom extension issue using SDE connection

I am using a custom analyst extension tool that allows users to load and manipulate data within ArcMap10. The tool is written in Visual Basic. The two data sources are a 9.2 ArcSDE Geodatabse managed in SQL Server 2008 and a 9.3 file geodatabase. Some of the data from the the SDE database is not displaying in a tool within the extension, but when the exact data is loaded from the file geodatabase the there are no issues. There do not seem to be any connection issues. Is this a architecture issue or code issue?

multiple fc vs domain/subtype

$

Hi all,

I have geodb like the picture below..
each FD represents region. every FD has almost the same FC. eg: FD1 has FC_road_reg1, FC_canal_reg1, FD2 has FC_road_reg2, FC_canal_reg2 (some region has the same coordinate syst)

We know that this can be implemented just using one FC

Question:
1. is this better than putting all the records together and differentiate them using subtype/domain ?
2. Which one is better in performance wise, having different FCs or 1 FC with domain/subtype ?

Many thanks

if you face this error "Operation Failed, Unable to start iomgr" while attempting to start or stop ArcSDE service. There is high probablity that you have orphan processes in your server.

for example,

if you are hosting your ArcSDE engine on a Unix server.

use the following command:

ps -ef | grep gsrvr

it will list the orphan sde process. you need to kill them using the "kill" command.

Hi all,
I just have my new Window 7 and new Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Express installed (by our Computer Team) in my PC that is part of Microsoft NT 4 LAN System. I have no ideas where Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Express is installed - I clicked on "Start" of my PC => Microsoft SQL Server 2012 has (i) Import and Export Data (64-bit) and (ii) Configuration Tools. If I open a mxd Map from ArcMap 10.0 and then click on ArcCatalog 10.0, I see and click on Database Servers: Add Dsatabase Servers, I get the "Add Database Server" dialog box - see the attached file. I have no ideas how to connect my new Microsoft SQL server 2012 Express to the Data Server of ArcGIS 10.0/ArcCatalog 10.0. Please kindly help and tell me how I can get my new Microsoft SQL server 2012 Express to the Data Server of ArcGIS 10.0/ArcCatalog 10.0.
Thanks,

10.1 SDE Raster Storage Size blow-out

$

Hi all,

We have found that there is a significant blow-out in storage size of raster datasets in ArcSDE 10.1 in comparison to the storage size currently stored for ArcSDE 9.3. It also exceeds the estimated storage size (using ESRI formula) and in some cases more than 100%.

The emerging pattern is that a storage size blow-out occurs with raster datasets that were initially created in versions ArcSDE 9.2 and under.

We have also found raster data created in ArcSDE 10.1 not as efficient in storage as with previous ArcSDE versions. Both Lz77 and jpeg75 compressions exceed the estimated storage size.

ESRI have offered work-arounds, but no explanation.

Has anyone had any similar issues and, if so, have you come up with a solution.

thanks,

Compress issue - in replica environment

Hi All,

I am having one way replication enabled towards the site. We were faced few hick ups in synchronisation and now all sorted out and the synch working fine for the last two weeks. The issue currently have is the compress is not clearing the delta tables which is happening after each synch.

select id,name from sde.gdb_replicas;

ID NAME
---------- --------------------------------
6 IO_ANT
11 IOENVIRON

In that 11 IOENVIRON is working ok. IO_ANT is having heaps version still exist. I have queried to check whether any orphan version exist that preventing from clearing the delta tables. There are no orphan version exist

SYNC_SEND_6_29 - if you look above query the issue starting from this version onwards this version date is two months ago which I doubt created when we were facing synch failiure, from here onwards it is keeping all versions till today. Which accumulating the delta layers.
SYNC_SEND_6_73 is todays version and 73 is the replica state.
Is there any way to get rid of the version staring from SYNC_SEND_6_29 to SYNC_SEND_6_72 so that I can perform a compress and get cleared my delta tables. At the moment I am facing serious performance issuses while rendering the layers.

Your help is really appreciated

Cheers

User and Data Permissions problem with SQL Express enterprise geodatabase

$

I am using Windows Server 2008 R2, ArcGIS Server 10.1 Enterprise Advanced, and SQL Express 2008 R2. Express was installed
(as suggested in another thread) without the enable geodatabase option. This is a development server. I am a local administrator. My domain account was added by default as the SQL Express server administrator.

I used the Geodatabase Administration tools Create Enterprise Geodatabase (with Operating System authentication) and Enable Enterprise Geodatabase. After adding the Server Account as a user and adding a feature dataset with one feature class, I used the Change Privileges tool to grant read/write privileges for the Server Account, arcgis.

The feature class > Manage >Privileges dialog shows the Server Account as having privileges. My login is not listed and does not take if added; dbo is listed but does not take if added -- my understanding is that my login is mapped to dbo, and dbo is assumed.

The dataset is not registered as versioned.

When trying to add the geodatabase to the ArcGIS Server data permissions on the Server properties DataStore tab, the geodatabase was recognized. However, an error mentioned a bad login or property error.

What could be the cause of the problem here?

Applying schema changes on a esri geodatabase two-way replica set

I have an Esri geodatabase two-way replica set. I need to update the schema on both databases in the replica set. Esri describes doing this using ArcGIS schema tools (compare/export/import replica schema - see here).

I have control of both databases in the replica set and I would prefer to make a python script, which updates the schema and run that on both databases in the replica set.

Are there potential problems with applying the schema changes to both databases instead using Esri's schema tools?

I use arcsde 10.0 (service pack 3).

Sync Replicas using Engine - Not Licensed?

$

I have an Engine Runtime application that syncs SDE Replicas on demand and at a scheduled interval. When I run the code below I get the following error:

The application is not licensed to perform this operation, Error Code: -2147220959

The funny thing is that it appears to work, that is, changes in the parent are pushed to the children. But in the SDE table GDB_REPLICALOG, it shows the error code above. From the documentation I've read IReplicationAgent.SynchronizeReplica() is supported in Engine. So why am I getting this error? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Example Code:
Private Sub SynchronizeReplica(parentGDS As IGeoDataServer, childGDS As IGeoDataServer,
replicaName As String, conflictPolicy As esriReplicationAgentReconcilePolicy,
syncDirection As esriReplicaSynchronizeDirection, columnLevel As Boolean)

Try
Dim parentReplica As IGPReplica
parentReplica = GetReplicaByName(parentGDS, replicaName)

Dim childReplica As IGPReplica
childReplica = GetReplicaByName(childGDS, replicaName)

' Synchronize the replica.
Dim replicationAgent As IReplicationAgent = New ReplicationAgentClass()
replicationAgent.SynchronizeReplica(parentGDS, childGDS, parentReplica, childReplica, conflictPolicy, syncDirection, columnLevel)

Catch comExc As COMException
Throw New Exception(String.Format("Create replica errored: {0}, Error Code: {1}", comExc.Message, comExc.ErrorCode), comExc)
Catch exc As Exception
Throw New Exception(String.Format("Create replica errored: {0}", exc.Message), exc)
End Try

End Sub

maximum username length in ArcSDE Geodatabase

Hi,

I have an enterprise SQL Server ArcSDE geodatabase, I have many window group users.

From ArcCatolog, I grant privileges to the goups users, all of them fine are except 2 groups. I got error : Invalid Parameter value passed to function.

I could not figure out why, but these two groups have the longest user name, including the domain name, total are 33 character.

Is there a maximum username length restriction in ArcSDE Geodatabase user?

Thanks.

Each connection connection through ArcSDE spawns gsrvr process to the database.

To find the corresponding Oracle Session for Each ArcSDE user connection session, use the following query:

select s.sid , pi.owner,pi.nodename,pi.start_time ,s.process,pi.server_id
from v$session s, sde.process_information pi
where s.PROCESS=to_char(pi.SERVER_ID)

Some questions about geodatabase concepts

Hi everyone,

I'm preparing myself for the Enterprise Geodatabase Management Associate exam. To be honest it's a challenge for me since I've only been working with ArcGIS technology for more than 1 year, but I'd like to try my best. I'm not sure if it's the right forum to post, but there are some questions in the syllabus which I'm not sure how to get it correctly. In particular:

1. Regarding ArcGIS product Knowledge:
- Identify the management tiers of the geodatabase and their purpose

2. Regarding Understand System Requirements for Relational Database Management System (RDBMS):
- Explain storage implications of different data types
- Identify the key parameters for configuring RDBMS

3. Regarding Data Management:
-Determine which parameters/options need to be modified when a large amount of data is being loaded

4. Regarding Workflow Management:
- Identify workflows that significantly impact the geodatabase and explain how

I would really appreciate it if anyone can point me in the right direction to understand the above concepts :)
Here's the full syllabus (under Skills Measured tab) for anyone who is interested: http://training.esri.com/certificati...ociate10-1.cfm

After upgrading Oracle from 10.2.0.4 to 11.2.0.3, we can no longer Administer the DB. --
Right click on the SDE@ODBC_Name in ArcCatalog 10.1 SP1 using Direct Connect. Then go to Administer, then Administer GeoDatabase. The Following tabs are blank and the refresh button is grayed out: Transactional / Tree View / Historical.
When clicking on the Reconcile Order tab the following error is displayed: Error Loading Versions. Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
